Parents form a very important part of our school community. Parents can promote very positive attitudes towards education with their children. We recognise that communication between the school and home is of critical importance in the development of our students. We value very highly the contribution that Parents can make to the life of the school and we welcome ideas from Parents on how they can become involved with us in the education of their children.
The school tracksuit top and T-shirt are now available for purchase from O’Neills Sportswear on Long Mile Road. Please note that plain black track pants, which can be bought from any high street store, are also part of the uniform.
We kindly remind parents that leggings are not considered appropriate for school. Pupils should wear plain black track pants as part of their uniform.
Parent Teacher meetings are scheduled for the first term of each year. If a Parent wishes to meet with a Teacher to discuss any aspect of the progress of their child then an appointment should be made through the school office. Teachers should not be approached at assembly time or during class time to discuss an issue in relation to a particular child as it is not possible for the Teacher to supervise a class while engaged in such a conversation. All meetings with Teachers should be held in a respectful way
Tests form part of the ongoing assessment process of all students. Tests are held in subjects throughout the school year. Standardised tests, which are conducted in all Irish primary school take place towards the end of the last term. The purpose of all tests is to give information on the progress a child is making in learning and also to give information on the obstacles that are preventing them from learning. Information from tests informs the teaching of children in subsequent lessons. Detailed information on this process can be found on the NCCA.IE website.
All parents at St Damian's are welcome to join our Parent Association. The association plays a crucial role in supporting our school and enhancing the educational experience of all our pupils. Made up of a dedicated group of parents, it operates on a voluntary basis, with office holders elected every two years at the Annual General Meeting.
The main aims of our Parents' Association are to:
Keep parents informed about developments in education and within the school.
Promote cooperation and communication between parents, teachers, and school management.
Support extracurricular activities where needed.
Fundraise for resources, equipment, and any other needs that arise within the school.
We encourage all parents to get involved and contribute their ideas and talents to help us continue providing the best possible opportunities for our children.
Any Parent/Guardian in the school is welcome to join in and lend a helping hand when they can by contacting the current Chairperson via email at parentsassociation@scoildamian.com
